Quality Hops Start With Good Management

The Hopyard

In 2015 we started with a variety trial to see how well hops would do in our climate on the Naramata Bench. It turns out they love our heat and weather and flourished in the first year. In the spring of 2016 we started constructing the Hopyard which takes up just under 2 acres along the Kettle Valley Rail trail.  We started with 6x6 treated lumber poles for stability and presence. The ground was prepped and compost spread to give the new plantings a boost of organic matter. In 2016 we planted 1, 2 and 3 year old plants - the Hopyard was in full production by fall 2017.

Varieties planted include Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, Chinook, Crystal, Glacier, Hallertau, Magnum, Mount Hood, Nugget, Dr. Rudi (Super Alpha) Sterling, Triple Pearle, and Willamette. We also have small plantings of Pacific Gem, Saaz and Galena.

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see the growing season, harvest and other fun hopyard and beer related things.
